PLANT

Arnica is a medicinal plant of the Asteraceae family, native to North America, which grows wild in meadows, undergrowth and mountainous areas.

Of the different Arnica species, the most suitable for our climate is Arnica Montana.

Arnica is a perennial plant with a strong, fleshy rhizomatous root that generates dark green cylindrical stems averaging about 70 centimetres in height.

CULTIVATION

It prefers bright, sunny places but fears the excessive heat of summer, which is why it is also recommended to plant it in semi-shady places or in the shelter of tall trees.

The first summer must be watered regularly in dry weather, while the following summers arnica will tolerate drought well if the soil remains cool.

PROPERTIES

Arnica has mainly antiphlogistic properties, exclusively for topical use (applied directly to the skin of the diseased part).

It is therefore used in traumatology in cases of post-traumatic oedemas (fractures, sprains, bruises, contusions, bruises, haematomas, muscle tears, fracture oedemas), arthralgias and rheumatic joint disorders, joint effusions and non-ulcerative phlebitis.
Arnica is widely used in the formulation of sports massage products and anti-rheumatic patches.

USI

Due to its medicinal properties, the Arnica plant is used for phytotherapeutic purposes: it is used in the treatment of traumas and bruises in the form of ointments or infusions.

Arnica preparations are successfully used in skin complaints, as an oral antiseptic, in alveolar pyorrhoea, chronic pharyngitis, phlebitis and furunculosis. In addition, compresses soaked in Arnica give excellent results in the treatment of haemorrhoids and relief from insect bites.
