PLANT

Calathea orbifolia is one of the most beautiful of the entire Calathea genus, with large, round leaves streaked with dark green and silver.
Calathea Orbifolia is commonly called 'Prayer Plant' because their leaves close at night. If you get up before dawn, you may see the leaves unfold to catch the daylight.

CULTIVATION

Calathea orbifolia grows natively in Bolivia, where it basks in moisture and mottled light. It will be happiest in your home if you imitate rainforest conditions: moist soil, lots of moisture and the kind of light you would get under the canopy of larger trees, i.e. not direct sun. It will grow even faster with a monthly dose of liquid fertiliser in spring and summer.
