PLANT

It is a herbaceous perennial plant belonging to the Labiatae family. It has a prostrate habit as its branches tend to spread horizontally. The name of this plant derives from the flavour it gives off, as if this herb naturally contained the spice of pepper. The leaves are rounded, wrinkled and greenish-blue. The flowers are white tending to violet. It can reach a height of 30 cm.

CULTIVATION

Pepper grass tends to grow on uncultivated land, in dry and stony places, in meadows and along roadsides. It adapts to any type of soil although it prefers moist and soft ones; it can also be grown in pots. Clayey or heavy soils that prevent proper water drainage should be avoided. It can be placed in both sun and shade. In winter, the aerial part tends to disappear if left outside. Withstands drought well. Water as needed.

COLLECTION

Of the pepper grass, the freshly harvested leaves are used throughout the vegetative period.
