PLANT
Ensete ventricosum 'Maurelii' is a shrub with an underground stem and large, persistent and very decorative foliage. It is a delicate plant, which fears frost and wind (in both cases the leaves may be damaged). If it cannot be guaranteed a warm, sheltered position, it is best grown in large pots to be protected with suitable structures during the winter season.
FRUIT
The fruits are 10 to 30 centimetres long each and are clustered in helmets weighing from 10 to 50 kilograms in red.
CURIOSITIES
The largest producing country of the fruit is India, followed by Brazil and China. Ecuador, which is one of the largest exporters to Italy, is in fourth place.
