PLANT

The Sanguinella peach is an ancient variety belonging to the Damaschino peaches.

The Sanguinella peach tree is a medium-low vigour variety with an irregular growth habit and is generally quite productive. Its appearance is rather rustic, and it is undemanding as far as soils are concerned; in fact, it adapts very well to all soil types.

FRUIT

The fruit is of medium-small size, oblong almost oval in shape and slightly pointed. The suture lines are very evident, making it distinctive and easily recognisable. The skin is covered with a thick greyish down that also acts as protection, making it immune to pests. The skin has a greyish-yellow background colour with a purplish-red overcolour. The real peculiarity, however, is that of the flesh, which as soon as it is born is white with a diffuse red colour that is more intense towards the kernel, but becomes deep red, almost purplish, towards maturity. It is juicy and very fragrant, liquescent when ripe, slightly bitter and semi-bitter towards the stone. The only drawback is the very short shelf life.
