Key Features

• • Build and Dimensions: It grows as a small deciduous tree or a dense, vigorous shrub, reaching a maximum height of 3–4 metres (rarely 5) and a width of around 1.5–2 metres. It is ideal for small gardens, mixed hedges or unconventional fruit cultivation. 
  • Spectacular Foliage: The pinnate leaves are bright green in spring and summer, but in autumn they offer a a blaze of crimson, purplish and orange hues before falling. 
  • Flowering: In spring (March–May) it produces clusters (corymbs) of white or cream-coloured flowers that produce a great deal of nectar, which are highly prized by bees and pollinators. 
  • Fruits (Berries): Towards the end of summer (August–September), large clusters of round berries, up to 2 cm in diameter, ripen. Their colour ranges from dark red to purplish-violet, almost black. 

Consumption and Characteristics of the Fruit

• • They can be eaten fresh when they are very ripe.
  • They are at their most flavourful when cooked or turned into delicious jams, jellies, juices, syrups, liqueurs or fruit liqueurs.
  • They are extremely rich in vitamin C, antioxidants and nutrients. 

Cultivation

• Cold resistance: It can withstand extremely cold winter temperatures, down to -25°C / -30°C.
• Exhibition: He prefers positions in full sun or gentle partial shade.
• Soil: It requires moderately fertile, moist but well-drained soil, preferably neutral or slightly acidic.
• Pollination: It is a variety self-fertile, which means that it bears fruit abundantly even if you only have one plant in your garden.
