FEATURES

The Montepulciano grape variety has rather uncertain origins, often being confused with Sangiovese, probably because of the Tuscan name 'Vino Nobile di Montepulciano DOCG'. Today, however, it is certain that the two grape varieties have nothing in common. It is mainly cultivated in the Marche, Abruzzo and other central and southern regions. Its origin is almost certainly in the Abruzzi, where its oldest origins are in the province of Pescara, although some of its greatest oenological expressions can be traced back to the Marche region, in particular to the Conero DOCG. Sangiovese and Montepulciano, however, represent the best tradition of neological production in Central Italy as far as red wines are concerned.

GRAPPOLO

medium compact, compact, medium size, conical, cylindrical. Wings in the cluster: 1-2.
Average bunch weight: 280 to 350 g.

ACINO

The berry is medium-sized, sub-ovoid, with a thick, consistent, very pruinose, blue-black skin.

PHENOLOGICAL PERIODS

Sprouting: 3rd decade of March

Flowering: 1st ten days of June

Ripening: end of September - beginning of October

CHARACTERISTICS ENOLOGICAL CHARACTERISTICS

The wine obtained from the Montepulciano grape variety is ruby red in colour, intense. On the palate it is vinous, fruity, tannic and full-bodied.
